HAIRBALLS IN CATS | SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT |

May 5, 2023

Today’s blog post is about hairballs. When cats groom themselves (by licking), excess hair goes into their stomach. This is common with long-haired Persian cats, who have lots of hair. Your cat will vomit hairballs as the coat builds up in its stomach. Most cats vomit 1/2 hairballs each month.

In summer, cats shed a lot of hair. The longer and more hair cats have, the more they suffer from hairballs. This is why you must brush your cat’s fur daily. Cats can suffer from diarrhoea as well as vomiting. If hair goes into the intestine, death can also occur. However, this is very rare.

Hairballs have a straightforward solution. That is making sure you brush your cat’s hair every day. This will prevent any excess hair from going into your kitty’s stomach. The more fur you remove, the less hair will end up in your cat’s stomach.

If your pet is vomiting more than usual, it is best you immediately visit the vet!
