MISTAKES OWNERS MAKE WHEN MAKING HOMEMADE CAT FOOD

May 6, 2023

Today, I will be going through mistakes owners make when making homemade food for their cats. I mentioned some general mistakes owners make (click here to read), but this one is about everything to do with homemade cat food. These mistakes can be very harmful to your cat, so make sure you read till the end!

Homemade cat food benefits your cat because it can prevent obesity and diabetes. We all want our cats to be happy and live a long healthy life. Following are mistakes you should bare in mind the next time you make your feline’s food.

The first mistake owners are making is adding jelly food to their cat’s diet. I have uploaded a post on homemade cat food in which I give you the recipe myself. Follow the recipe! You can mix in jelly food for the first few days to get your cat familiar with the cat food.

However, slowly decrease the amount you put in. Jelly food can be very harmful to your cat. Also, follow the proper method to change your cat’s food. I have uploaded a separate post on that so make sure you give it a read because its a very important matter.

Some people add way too much liver/kidney to the recipe. Others add way too much rice and only a few bits of meat or chicken. Make sure you follow the right amounts otherwise, it can be dangerous for your companion! Remember getting quantities right is crucial!

Another mistake some owners make is adding salt and spices to the recipe. Spices should not be given to cats under any circumstance. Pink/Himalayan salt is dangerous but you can give iodized salt to your cat. However, there’s NO benefit because cats can’t actually taste any seasonings.

Spicy food can cause your cats to vomit and suffer from diarrhea. Turmeric can be beneficial for cats; in the same way, it’s beneficial for us humans. However, you shouldn’t be giving it to your cat every single day. You can add some to its food once or twice a month. Also, I would recommend consulting your vet and buying multivitamins for your pet.

Now, with regard to eggs. You can put eggs into homemade cat food but the eggs will rot in your freezer. It will become damaging if you are constantly freezing and then leaving to defrost (and then freezing again!). Click here to read a separate blog all about the benefits of eggs.
