So today, let’s talk about fleas. Usually, summer is when fleas spread around rapidly, the primary season for fleas. Let’s start off by talking about the source.
Where do cats get fleas from? Fleas can travel from one cat to another. Besides that, your cat can also bring fleas from the vet. Having carpet in your house instead of flooring can increase the chance of fleas and also, if your cat sits somewhere that’s dirty, it has a chance of getting fleas.
Some breeders have several cats at home but only a few are allowed outside. So when the feline comes back home it brings back fleas that obviously transfer onto the other cats. If you notice your cat has fleas, you need to get it treated asap. Fleas will multiply into thousands within days. They produce 20 eggs a day. Additionally, they can cause a lot of harm to your cat by sucking its blood. This will then result in internal and external damage. It can cause skin problems, reducing fur growth.
Some people recommend giving your cat tablets, injections, and even a powder or liquid. Don’t ever use these four things I have mentioned! They can be harmful and cause your cat a lot of damage. Spray can be used, but you’ll have to ensure your kitty doesn’t lick itself for a couple of hours. Frontline spray is an excellent cure for fleas. It has a 99% chance of working if used properly. I would also suggest you first consult a vet near you.
Another spray that is really good for fleas is D tick spray. It’s cheap and effective. There are also some drops called Spot on, which can remove fleas within 1 or 2 days.
I would also recommend getting a flea comb/brush. It’s beneficial in eliminating fleas and their dirt as well.
Home remedies can be done as well. However, these remedies are not guaranteed to work. The first home remedy is coconut oil. Again, it’s not guaranteed to work, but you can give it a go. Bear in mind that it will make your cat’s hair oily! You can also make a mixture of vinegar, dish soap, and soda. Then dip your flea brush and comb your cat’s fur. Don’t use flea shampoo etc. Usually, sprays are the best solution for fleas.
Finally, I’d like to mention how you know your cat has fleas. Fleas leave dirt which can easily be detected around your cat’s head and it’s usually of a black/brown sort of color.
